Apple's iMac hasn't really changed much in the past few years with only a small specs update last year without any physical design changes but now there are some upcoming 2020 imac rumors which stated coming sometime this year.


Let's discuss about those 2020 imac rumors as well as a couple o personal reasons why we think we should expect a new 2020 iMac and we'll also discuss the top 6 features of 2020 imac we should expect to see in this new 2020 imac.

The top six features we should expect in the 2020 iMac refresh

First of all, we believe that most of the new features of 2020 imac are going to be coming to the larger 27-inch 5k iMac and in the 2020 imac 4k version will more or less stay the same or only see a bit of the update. so for these new features in 2020 imac we're gonna focus on the 5k iMac.

1. Navi GPU in 2020 imac

One thing we can definitely expect is Apple to offer the new AMD Navi graphics card's in the upcoming 2020 imac. AMD's Navi GPU is the graphics option that come packed into the 16 inch MacBook Pro.

We should probably expect to see the Radion RX 5500 as base graphics option in 2020 imac and maybe we will also see the radion RX 5600 XT at the mid-level 2020 imac and at the high-end imac a Radion 5700 XT option.

These AMD's new Navi based graphics cards perform extremely well for gaming and also well for other graphics-heavy tasks like video editing and visual editing tasks.

2. New design 2020 imac

It's been a very long time since the physical display has been refreshed in the imac so we think that this is finally the year to see it happen in the upcoming 2020 imac.

The designs change in the upcoming 2020 imac will come in the form of slammed down bezels, possibly making the overall size of the 2020 iMac smaller to fit the same display size at a lower footprint of the 2020 imac.

We might also see Apple bumping the display size in 2020 imac up to 28 or 29 inches. if apple keeps the same form factor in the 2020 imac there's also the chance that Apple might increase the refresh rate in 2020 imac display to make the 2020 imac gamer-friendly but that doesn't seem as likely.

3. 10th gen intel processor in 2020 imac

We should definitely expect to see Intel's latest high-end 10th generation processors in the upcoming 2020 imac. some Windows laptops are already coming with these 10th gen intel processors but they're low-end chips.

We believe the upcoming 2020 imac will be one of the first computers to come with these new higher-end 10th gen intel processor chips.

This integration of intel 10th gen processors in 2020 imac will greatly increase efficiency and we should expect to see very high performance, 10 core processor option on the top end 2020 imac

This 10th gen intel processors in the upcoming 2020 imac would also be a great match for the high-end AMD radion RX 5700 XT that could be coming in 2020 iMac.

4. Better Cooling in 2020 imac

We should expect to see better cooling on the upcoming 2020 imac and possibly the same dual-fan cooling system that's in the current 2017 imac pro system.

This new cooling solution in the upcoming 2020 imac will be very important if the 2020 iMac is going to be packing such powerful hardware and especially important if the 2020 imac will end up being a gaming-focused computer or gaming imac.

Hopefully, Apple will figure out a way to keep the RAM accessible and user-upgradeable alongside the new cooling updates in the upcoming 2020 imac.

5. SSD in 2020 imac

We expect Apple to finally get rid of the fusion drive in 2020 imac as a standard storage drive and offer only SSD storage in 2020 imac like the rest of their mac's.

This adoption of SSD in 2020 imac will most likely only happen on the 27-inch 5k iMac and not the 2020 4k imac models since 4k imac are more focused for the budget-minded.

6. Apple t2 chip in 2020 imac

One of the biggest drawbacks of the current imac is that it doesn't come with the t2 chip inside. this means current imac gets much worse performance for HEvC video editing and current imac are not as secure as the rest of apple Macs.

The reason the current iMac doesn't have the t2 chip because the t2 chip is meant to work with SSDs and since Apple still offers fusion drives on the 5k iMac they couldn't really implement the t2 chip.

So if the 2020 5k iMac switches over to SSDs storage only we should expect the 2020 imac chip to come with either a t2 chip or maybe even a brand new updated t3 chip that takes care of more tasks.

This t2 chips in 2020 imac will also pave the road to Apple finally getting rid of Hackintosh by requiring macos to check for this t2 chip to allow the macos to run but this will not happen for another few years.


So there you have it. those are some of the features that we expect to see in the new upcoming 2020 imac later this year. 

Now there is a chance that Apple could skip this year to launch any imac altogether but we'd really like to see the 2020 imac launch this year.
